The Lake District National Park- Stunningly beautiful countryside in Cumbria 16 lakes interspersed with high fells. A haven for walking boating climbing and swimming.

The two famous routes into the National Park carry the largest volume of traffic. One is the A592 from Penrith to Ambleside along the shore of Ullswater and over the Kirkstone Pass. The other is the A591 from Keswick to Windermere along the side of Thirlmere, Grasmere, Rydal Water and Windermere.

Away from these routes it is possible to find areas of real peace and tranquility, particularly if you avoid high summer.

The main centre of the Lakes is Windermere WindermeresWebsite as the largest lake, windermere has many of the popular tourist attractions and accommodation. It is a centre for boating and walking and there are many boats steaming around the lake offering all sorts of trips , including the trip from Bowness on the Eastern Shore to Ambleside on the Northern edge.

Coniston, is another of the large lakes and although not as busy as Windermere it still offers lots of attractions. ConistonsWebsite The town of Coniston itself is not as busy as the Windermere towns, and the OLD MAN OF CONISTON (2635 ft/803meters) can be climbed via a well marked route.
